Update - Meeting at Reunion Arena

Well, I've just returned after spending the morning down at Reunion Arena. Organized Chaos is putting it mildly in trying to describe the situation down there. So many people needing help and so many people trying to help with thousands more due to arrive over the next couple of days. The Red Cross is doing an AMAZING job as is the rest of the city of Dallas. There's even a shelter area for dogs and cats.

Today all I was able to do is post fliers around the arena sharing the Intergroup phone # and advising AA's to call for rides or information. I also took a box of mini Big Books and some Living Sober books and left those at one of the many information tables set up to help people access resources in the city. Additionally, a couple of us have begun taking fliers and AA meeting lists around to local hotels so that if they have people staying at their facilities and inquire as to how to find AA they'll have information to share with them.

I have begun discussions with the Dallas office of the American Red Cross and they've agreed that having a specific place within Reunion Arena to host regularly scheduled AA meetings would be a very valuable thing. I expect to hear back from them within the next day and will share that information with everybody as soon as I get it. In the meantime, I'm asking for donations to be sent to Intergroup for help in purchasing literature and Big Books as well as helping with any other supplies we may need to facilitate a standing group of meetings at Reunion Arena (such as coffee).

Thanks again to those of you who've stepped up and volunteered to help. With so much needing to be done, we can all do our part and being there when the hand of our fellow AA's need us is one of the greatest rewards of this wonderful fellowship.
